Mr. Simard has more than 25 years of experience in the private equity and banking industry. Prior to founding Champlain Capital in 2002, Mr. Simard was an investment banker with Lazard Freres & Co, LLC and Donaldson Lufkin & Jenrette, Inc. where he arranged mergers and acquisitions and high yield debt, equity and financing. He also worked at the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce, a major Canadian financial institution and for Lancaster Financial Corp., a private investment banking firm in Toronto. In 2004, Mr. Simard founded Champlain Financial Corporation (Canada) Inc., (“CFC”), a merchant bank in Montreal, Canada which enabled Champlain Capital Partners to further its relationship with its Canadian Limited Partners. Over his career, Mr. Simard participated in the origination and execution of over 40 transactions including, among others, exclusive sales, high yield debt financings, management buy-outs and initial public offerings. Mr. Simard received a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Laval University, a Graduate Degree in Management from the Université Catholique de Louvain, and an M.B.A. from the Johnson Graduate School of Management at Cornell University.
